Program Overview
The Documentary Studies minor is an interdisciplinary program that trains students to document human experience through multiple mediums. Students can learn practical skills in photography, filmmaking, audio production, and writing that shape documentary practice.
Our program emphasizes hands-on learning, community engagement, and ethical storytelling. Students work closely with expert faculty members and gain experience through fieldwork, internships, and collaborative projects.

- Boone Docs Film Festival
- Documentary Speaker Series: Throughout the academic year, students will have the opportunity to meet with visiting filmmakers to learn more about their craft and the industry.
- Pitch Competition: Annual pitch competition with winner competing in the River Run Film Festival Student Pitch Competition.
